Rico Ramos defeated the former champion Akifumi Shimoda of Japan in their 12 rounds bout on the undercard of Paul Williams vs Erislandy Lara bout on Saturday night live from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Akifumi Shimoda leading in the scorecards since in round 1 to 6, he connected a good and clean shots over Ramos. He stayed aggressive in the fight. Shimoda showed well in round 7 but he got caught by the left hook of Ramos in the 32 seconds remaining of the fight. Akifumi still on his feet and comes forward, then Ramos throws a right which slowed Shimoda and a left hook again hitting on the right chin and the former WBA World Super Bantamweight Champion went down in the 26 seconds remaining of the round 7. Akifumi Shimoda tried to stood up as the referee counted him but he didn't able to do it. He was badly hurt by the left hook shot of Rico Ramos.
Rico Ramos earned his first World title and the newly crowned World Boxing Association Super Bantamweight Champion of the World. He still remain undefeated. Akifumi Shimoda earned his first defeat by knockout but he fought well tonight, he was just so unlucky.
